Indicated Findings and Service Appeals

If DCFS makes an indicated finding, there may be an administrative appeal process with strict deadlines.

When DCFS makes an 'indicated' finding, it can be recorded in the State Central Register. You may have the right to appeal that finding through an administrative process. Key points: 1. The type of decision and the governing rules determine the available process and the deadline. 2. Deadlines are often short — read every letter carefully and note the date you received it. 3. Gather the records and prepare a factual response; organization matters. 4. An inquiry or phone call does NOT file an appeal or extend a deadline — follow the written process. This is general educational information; your remedies depend on your facts and current law.
